North Dorset RFC

48 - 10

(HT 0-0)

East Dorset Dockers RFC

On Saturday 15th January North Dorset welcomed East Dorset Dockers to Slaughtergate. Both sides were probing for the first 10 minutes of the game, trying to find weak spots in their opposition until North were awarded a penalty on the halfway line. From the kick, North Dorset were fast up, claimed the ball. Following an excellent passing movement, Charlie Jobling put Jake Cannings away with a beautiful, delayed pass enabling him after several side steps and a change of direction to run in under the posts. Sam Jones duly converted 7 - 0.

Soon after this, the North Dorset forwards drove over the Dockers line with Adam Trevis claiming the try and Sam Jones the conversion 14-0. East Dorset rallied to score a try from a quickly taken penalty close to the line but could not convert 14-5. However, the Dockers pressure on the Dorset line persisted, and a grubber kick through was hotly contested, won by North Dorset, who managed to touch down. This galvanised North Dorset into action, and with another forward attack on East Dorset`s line Henry Barron claimed the try, unconverted 19-5. Next, North Dorset stole a lineout, and Adam Trevis scored in the corner - again unconverted 24-5. Following this, North Dorset put together an excellent inter-passing movement leading to a try from Charlie Jobling and conversion by Sam Jones, bringing the halftime score to 31-5.

The second half began with Dockers scoring an unconverted try in the corner 31-10. North Dorset immediately responded by Tom Green scoring from a quick penalty, unconverted 36-10. The match at this stage became a little disjointed with several stoppages for injuries and both teams having to make changes. However, North Dorset piled on the pressure on a tiring East Dorset pack, and Sean Perry made a searing break to score a beautiful try converted by Sam Jones 43-10. The final move of the match saw Tom Ashfield score in the corner, unconverted, which brought the final score to 48-10.

The large crowd of spectators were delighted to watch such a good game and see Henry Barron awarded Gritchie Brewing Company Player of the match.

The Dorset 2nds (The Badgers) were also playing at home and proved far too strong for Salisbury 3rds, winning 66-0, meaning that the Club had a very good day at the Office!
